Henry Gray (Baton Rouge, LA) receives his 2006 NEA National Heritage Fellowship award from National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Dana Gioia at an award ceremony in Washington, DC on September 14. Mr. Gray was one of eleven master artists to receive the nation's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts for his work as a gospel and bluegrass singer, arranger, and bandleader. "The NEA is pleased to honor Henry Gray for his contributions to the excellence of the blues," said Chairman Gioia. "Henry is not only an artist who has made Baton Rouge a renowned home of the blues, but he is also a true ambassador of the blues world-wide."
